about Kat Lyon

Kat Lyon (they/them) is a photographer and creative producer working across editorial portraiture and film-based lifestyle imagery. Influenced early by documentary filmmaking, Lyon developed a deep appreciation for image-making as both observation and collaboration. With a keen eye for color and a deep appreciation for texture, they’ve cultivated a signature style that channels retro motifs through a modern lens—evoking nostalgia and familiarity while presenting fresh, contemporary perspectives.
Working frequently in film and natural light, their work merges visual direction with natural presence. Lyon balances strong composition with lived-in authenticity, creating images that feel intentional yet emotionally accessible. They center disabled, fat, and BIPOC subjects, prioritizing representation that feels dimensional, stylish, and collaborative rather than tokenized.
Since 2017, Lyon has also worked professionally as a model, collaborating with brands including Lisa Says Gah, First Aid Beauty, Instagram, and Girlfriend Collective. This experience in front of the lens profoundly informs their work behind it: they understand how direction translates physically, how lighting shapes confidence, and how subtle shifts in posture and movement can transform an image. Known for cultivating grounded, communicative environments on set, Lyon creates spaces where subjects feel comfortable and empowered while maintaining clear creative direction.
They currently live and work in New York City.
